The Dashboard, in it's current form, has three main sections.  Our vision for this dashboard is to provide you with at-a-glance insights on your business.

We view the current dashboard as a placeholder, and have an enhanced vision for how this will function in the near future.  We made changes in FR06, 07, 08 and 09 will have more that support what will come next in this regards.  For now, it's fairly basic but still has some great insights for you that you won't get on Amazon's Seller Central.

Here are a few key things to know about first:

  • Click the Days dropdown to select the number of days to show up to and including today.
  • All the money amounts shown are based on the Display Currency dropdown at the top of the screen.
  • This information comes directly out of our FIFO COGS v3 engine.  As the saying goes, garbage in, garbage out.  If you don't enter your purchase costs, it should therefore be no surprise that the margin and ROI calculations will be off because they are missing key cost components.
  • If you sell the same SKU on Amazon.com and Amazon.ca, for example, then you will see your global sales in the grid below.  Your global sales are shown in the Statistics area.
  • Below is an explanation of various statistics and calculations.  It is important to note that all such calculations are performed at the SKU item level, always, and only then tallied to get the totals.  That is the most accurate arithmetic, and the most financially auditable.

Statistics:

  • Total Sales.  These are your gross sales, excluding taxes.  This is important, because depending on where you look on the Seller Central website or mobile app, sometimes those sales figures INCLUDE sales taxes.
  • Total Units.  Self explanatory.
  • Avg. Sales Price.  This is a calculation of the Total Sales divided by the Total Units.  Neat metric to watch over time.
  • Product Costs.  Based on the FIFO COGS v3 engine, your product costs for those sales is shown here.
  • Total COGS.  The Total COGS includes the Product Costs plus Amazon Fees.
  • Est. Amazon Payout.  This is the estimated amount of cash flows you would expect to see from Amazon, again, excluding taxes.  This is calculated from your Total Sales minus Product Costs.
  • Net Margin.  This is the closest thing that most other software will call "Profit".   Your profit is only profit when you take out all your corporate overheads and other expenses, such as EBITDA.  From a financial accounting perspective, this figure helps you evaluate the Profit & Loss / Income Statement view of the financial data.   In other words, how profitable was that sale.  Net margin is calculated by taking the Total Sales minus the Product Cost, minus Amazon Fees.
  • Net Margin (%).  This is a ratio, calculated by taking the Net Margin dollar amount and dividing it by the Total Sales amount.  The higher the better.
  • ROI.  Return On Investment is a useful metric that helps you understand how much money you are getting back on top of your original spend.  From a financial accounting perspective, this figure helps you evaluate your Balance Sheet view of the financial data.  ROI is calculated by taking your Net Margin and dividing it by your Total COGS, because that is what you invested to get that sale.  The higher the better.

Pie Chart:

  • This pie chart visually shows you the breakdown of the key statistics of Product Cost, Amazon Fees and your Net Margin.
  • Basically, this chart sucks.  Sorry about that.
  • It sucks because it takes up so much screen space and doesn't really ever change much.  It's on the chopping block when the updated Dashboard comes around.
